Chapter I
The Story
1769. More than a century before the gasoline engine, a French inventor named Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built a lumbering steam-powered cart that rolled forward under its own power — the first self-moving road vehicle in history. Slow, heavy, and hissing steam, it did something nothing had done before: it moved without a horse. Every car that followed began here. This design celebrates that origin in the spirit of a vintage archive plate.
The chest wears an oval badge; the back carries the full graphic — the steam cart with the story printed like a page from an archive.
