Smoke that reached the gods

Long before perfume was worn on the skin, it was burned for the gods. In the temples of Egypt, priests blended Kyphi — sixteen ingredients of honey, wine, raisins, resins and sweet reeds — and let its smoke rise at dusk. It was medicine, offering, and luxury at once, and its recipe was pressed into temple walls in hieroglyphs.

This design gathers that first fragrance into a single vessel — a lotus-crowned jar wrapped in cartouches and papyrus — and prints it like a plate torn from an old archaeological archive.

The chest wears a small tonal pennant, embroidered into the wash; the back carries the full archive plate — the Kyphi vessel, the year, and a line of hieroglyphs, printed to sit quietly against the pigment-dyed ground.

Care

Keeping the wash

Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colours. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Do not iron directly over the print. Because the fabric is pigment dyed, a gentle, gradual fade is part of the design — it will keep looking better the more you wear it.
