The long way home

Three thousand years ago Homer sang of Odysseus — a king trying to sail home from war, kept from Ithaca for ten years by storms, monsters and the whims of gods. Sirens, a one-eyed giant, a witch who turned men to swine: every shore held another trial between him and the family who waited.

This design distils that voyage to its vessel — a single embroidered galley under full sail, Odyssey · XII BC set beneath — on heavyweight black fleece.

Front chest — embroidered galley emblem

The galley sits at the left chest as raised embroidery — oars, hull and full sail in bone thread, a fine gold rule and the title beneath, quiet against the black fleece until it catches the light.

Care

Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colours. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Do not iron directly over the embroidery. Reshape while damp and avoid wringing to keep the fleece soft.
